Mutation: Nightcrawler can teleport himself, and a certain amount of additional mass from one point to another almost instantaneously. When teleporting, he leaves behind a small cloud of smoke and the smell of buring brimstone, actually part of the atmosphere from the dimension through which he travels.

In addition to tremendous natural agility, a keen sense of spatial awareness and the ability to stick to walls, Kurt also possesses the unconscious ability to blend into deep shadows.

Costume: Nightcrawler wears a standard black leather uniform with the following customizations; an opening for his tail, black gloves made to fit his 3-fingered hands, boots to fit his 2-toed feet and red piping.

History: Since birth, Kurt has resembled a demon in appearance, but his powers of teleportation did not emerge until puberty. His unusual phsyical characteristics, including indigo colored fur, prehensile tail, pointed ears, fang-like canine teeth, three-fingered hands and two-toed feet, caused his mother to abandon him.

Margali Szardos, a sorceress and gypsy queen, found Kurt in a roadside shelter in the Bavarian Alps less than an hour after his birth. Margali took the baby to the small Bavarian circus where she worked as a fortuneteller, a cover for her activities as a sorceress. There, circus performers who harbored no predjudices against so-called "freaks" raised the young Kurt, and Margali acted as his foster mother. Soon, he was a part of the circus, entertaining audiences with his acrobatic feats on the trapeze.

He later left the act when a Texas millionaire, who wanted to cast Kurt in his American freak show, bought the circus. Kurt then headed towards Winzeldorf, Germany, where his foster brother, Stefan, was living. He discovered Stefan had gone mad and slain children. Two nights after leaving the circus, Kurt found Stefan and fought him, hoping to end his rampage. During the struggle, Kurt unintentionally broke stefan's neck. When the villagers discovered him, he was assumed to be a demon responsible for the killings. They were about to kill him when they were psionically paralyzed by Professor Charles Xavier, who had come to recruit Kurt into the X-Men.
