History: When he was 18, Boris joined the Russian army, eventually becoming a member of the KGB. He developed a knack for breaking into all types of computer systems. When the Soviet Union collapsed, Boris found himself out of a job and began work as a computer mercenary, doing everything from corporate sabotage to spying on people's systems. He came to the attention of a certain Russian general, who recruited him for a project to free the super-mutant Omega Red from an icy grave in Siberia.

When Red was freed he went on a brief rage and killed the Russian general, leaving Boris in charge of the operation, which was almost halted by the X-Men. Boris was knocked unconscious during the early stages of the struggle in the Siberian wasteland and eventually came to under the care of a small party from the group known as Humans for the Eradication of the Mutant Species.
